Bernice Gallup passed away from this life on April 27, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter and her son, Aaron. She was born September 14, 1907, in Elgin, North Dakota. Her parents, Chester and Pauline Lipelt, had five other children, and moved to Lodi in the 1920’s.

In 1932 Bernice married Walter Gallup, and they settled in Wilton in 1936 with their son, Wayne. She was a published writer, a correspondent for the Sacramento Union, and a longtime employee of the Elk Grove Citizen.

She was a member of the Penwomen of America, the Wilton Thursday Club, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, and was honored as Elk Grove Citizen of the Year.
