WHO: You will find that there are 29 local non-profits participating in the Big Day of Giving if you search for Elk Grove. There are several others that serve our community but for whatever reason, do not come up in a search for Elk Grove. In the greater Sacramento area, there are hundreds of organizations participating in the Big Day of Giving. I am highlighting several of the ones that I donate to on this page. If you want to donate to one of these organizations, just click on the “learn more” link below each logo. If you want to learn about the other non-profit organizations in Elk Grove who are participating in the Big Day of Giving, click here.
WHAT: The Big Day of Giving is a multi-county effort by our local non-profit organizations to have an annual fundraising event to gain support for their programs. It happens once each year in the month of May.
WHEN: For 24 hours starting at midnight on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Since not everyone will be available to make their donations on May 2nd, you can make your donation online from April 18th to May 2nd. You can’t make donations to your chosen organizations through the Big Day of Giving after midnight on May 2nd. You can always go to their websites and make an online donation any time of the year.
WHERE: Donate online at www.bigdayofgiving.org from the comfort of your own home or deliver or mail a check to your favorite organization between now and May 4th.
WHY: Because these organizations provide support and services to our fellow citizens. They are one of the things that makes living in Elk Grove great.
HOW MUCH: That really depends upon your budget and ability to make a donation. When we received those stimulus checks , we decided to give the stimulus check to our favorite non-profit organizations. Those stimulus checks were an addition to our regular budget and I figured these organizations needed the stimulus check more than I do. This year our donations will be what ever we can afford out of our budget.
This year, like last year, since the Big Day of Giving is just several days before Mother’s Day, my wife and I decided to make our donations in the names of our mothers. My mom passed away the day after Mother’s Day in 2019 and my wife’s mother passed away in December 2020. So in the memory of our mothers, Billie Huante and Helene d’Esterhazy, we are again donating to our favorite non-profits. We know that these organizations will do great things for the people of our community.
Special Note: If you are a Golden 1 member, like me, and use your debit or credit card to make your donation, they will be matching those donations based upon their set budget of $50,000 for the Big Day of Giving.
We support non-profits in Elk Grove
The primary objective of all Lions Clubs is the prevention of blindness and providing services to those who need assistance with the purchase of eyeglasses. We also support people with hearing loss. In fact, in 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions Club International to be the Knights of the Blind and we have been doing that since then. We also support various other organizations in Elk Grove, including most of the organizations listed on this page. “We Serve” is our motto. We are here to serve the people of Elk Grove along with our sister club, the Pride of Laguna Creek Lions.
The Mission of the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation is to facilitate the development of educational opportunities and programs through scholarships and grants and to coordinate contributions to meet the community’s needs.

Chicks in Crisis reaches out to teens, young women, and current and emancipated foster youth who are pregnant, parenting, or at-risk, helping them to become responsible parents and leaders in our community. We create a foster-free future by helping them make positive choices in a non-judgmental environment. We help to keep these girls and their children off of the streets and out of sex trafficking, and break the cycle of hopelessness and neglect.
