Margit Kloss

Margit Kloss Passes Away
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM today for long time Elk Grove resident and civic activist Margit O. Kloss who died May 1 at the age of 80. She and her late husband, former Sacramento County Supervisor E. Henry Kloss, had the singular honor of being named as Elk Grove Citizens of the Year in separate years, each on their own merits.

The native of Oakland operated a canteen in the Franklin area from 1942 to 1946 during World War II and worked on emergency housing there for the Elk Grove Chapter, Sacramento Red Cross. She was a community and project leader for the Franklin 4-H Club for many years, finding some of her grandchildren in that same club. In October 1985, when she was named Citizen of the Year, the comment was made that her list of accomplishments was so long it was a wonder she found the time to be present to accept the award.

As it was, she almost missed the annual dinner when on the bus trip she was coordinating that day, the bus developed mechanical difficulties. She ran bus trips monthly to Lake Tahoe using the proceeds to benefit several local organizations including the Grange, Native Daughters, Lambda Theta Alpha, Royal Neighbors, Rebekahs, and the Historical Society. Mrs. Kloss was a member of the Royal Neighbors Camp 7739 where she was named as Northern California Fraternalist of the Year, a charter member of the Franklin Parents Club who named her as an honorary member, and a charter member of the Elk Grove Historical Society.

She also held membership in the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 109, Elk Grove Grange No. 86, Liberty Parlor No. 213 of Native Daughters, and Elk Grove Garden Club. She held many offices in each including president of several such as the Garden Club which she led from 1977 to 1985. She was a member of the Sacramento Cancer Dressings and a board member of the Elk Grove Park District.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Lynn Kloss. Mrs. Kloss is survived by her son Jarrett Kloss of Elk Grove; her grandsons Craig, Clinton, and Justin Kloss of Elk Grove, and Laurent Kloss of Herald; and her great-grandchildren Amber, Gina, Kurt, and Samantha Kloss. Services will be held at George L. Klumpp Chapel of Flowers, Riverside Boulevard and Second Avenue, followed by interment in Franklin Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. [Elk Grove Citizen , May 5, 1993. Submitted by KKM]
