Hot Tips

Did you know that you can challenge your property taxes? When you get your property tax statement in November, you should examine it closely. Does the property value on the statement seem to be in line with what you think your property is worth? Were your neighbor’s houses selling for less this past year than they did the prior year?

Yes, you read that correctly. Although the assessor’s office updates valuations each year, they are really not as quick to lower your assessed value as some of us believe they should. I posted an article on my blog that is worth reading every November since you will be getting a property tax statement and you want to make sure that you are not paying too much in property taxes. So, check out this link to my blog and read more about it. After you read the article, you may need some property sales info to make your challenge. Don’t hesitate to contact us so that we can assist you. Here is the link to the Sacramento County Assessor’s office for more info.

Did you know that Senior Citizens and disabled persons qualify for a 70% reduction on School Bond Taxes in the Elk Grove School District on their personal residences under certain circumstances?

Did you know that Senior Citizens and disabled persons may postpone the property taxes on their personal residences under certain circumstances?

Yes, you read that correctly. If your household income does not exceed $34,000 for seniors or $24,000 for disabled persons you can postpone your property taxes. For more information on this topic ask your accountant to provide information on Chapter 829; Revenue & Taxation Code, Section 20584.

Did you know that low income, disabled veterans and their surviving spouses (and that includes those of you who are also seniors) now have an increased property tax exemption?

Yes, it used to be $100,000 but now it is $150,000. Your accountant should be able to help you find a copy of Chapter 544; Revenue & Taxation Code, Section 205.5.

If you have not already enrolled in Medicare or need to change your Medicare plan, you should read this Enrolling in Medicare and Changing your Medicare Plan.
